Texas Department of Agriculture Pesticide
Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicators are required to obtain five continuing education credits to qualify for license renewal. Pest Control Courses offers a 5 CEU course that is state-approved to qualify Texan agricultural applicators for recertification.
To comply with Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator recertification requirements, at least two continuing education units have to cover either integrated pest management, laws/regulations or drift minimization.
In the 5 CEU course, applicators learn in detail about Texas laws and regulations. Students will learn about the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Texas Structural Pest Control Service and Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide use and disposal procedures. The course also covers Texas pesticide law, pesticide regulations, state-limited-use pesticides and regulated herbicides. Topics also include the Texas Structural Pest Control Act and Texas Solid Waste Disposal Act.
During the course on nonchemical pest control techniques, applicators will learn about integrated pest management in depth. The course provides reasons to practice IPM, basic steps of the program, and types of actions one can use to prevent or manage existing pest problems while also reducing chemical use.
Pest Control Courses’ 5 CEU course also covers pesticide safety. Applicators will learn about the benefits and risks of pesticide use, definition of toxicity, pesticide toxicity categories and chronic toxicity. The course also covers pesticide entry through the skin, mouth, eyes and lungs. It also touches on applicator safety, planning for accidents and pesticide labels.
During the pesticide formulations course, applicators will learn about the different types of dry and liquid pesticide formulations available today. And during the Emergencies, Spills and Misapplications course, students learn about actions to take in the event of a leak, spill or misapplication. Applicators will also learn about requirements of the Community-Right-to-Know Act.
